In 2010 the new Saltiga introduced unrivalled ground breaking technology…. Magseal and Zaion Air Rotor. This year we are proud to introduce the new Saltiga 7000H Dogfight to the range.
Saltiga heralds a giant leap forward in design, revolving around magnetic fluid. Developed by NASA to magnetically deliver fuel to space ships, this revolutionary innovation is now used in may of our reels.
But mixing a liquid with iron isn’t easy, Daiwa has mastered it. When dispersed evenly through liquid, the iron oxide (magnetite) has a diameter of 1/100,000mm, so small that the surface area of the ferromagnetic particle is around 1/10th of a single influenza virus.
This new metallic grease/oil takes on a new effect, placed by itself it forms a typical liquid helical shape with the introduction of a magnetic force it changes shape similar to the android in Terminator II, attaching itself to any other metal to form a seal. So strong is this magnetic liquid that if placed in a container with a magnetic surface it would retain its shape even if the bottom was removed. Being magnetized this lubrication system avoids any friction and prevents dust intrusion, eliminating oil spray and significantly improving reel life expectancy. The challenge for Daiwa was to utilise the inherent benefits of magnetic liquid in reel design. Instead of it being used to dustproof, we needed something that was waterproof. Innovative design combined new CRBB bearings with a magnetic oil membrane and making it possible. Water intrusion is now a thing of the past.
Not content just with Magseal, Saltiga also introduced Zaion Air Rotor. Zaion material was first seen in the Luvias series, this super strong light material is like no other – a new revolution in strength and sensitivity. This design disperses pressure to the entire lower section of the rotor, dramatically decreasing stress and flexing. Working in conjunction with the Mag Seal the Air Rotor has been hollowed out to create airflow through the whole rotor system. This prevents foreign material such as water, salt, sand and dust collecting inside the reel, the added air flow eliminates moist build up in the reel preventing corrosion issues.
With other designs innovations like Real Four, Hyper Digigear, UTD, Airbail etc as standard the Saltiga sets the standard as the best heavy duty reel available.

Almost 700,000 trout and salmon were stocked into 135 waters last year by the Victorian Coalition Government to improve fishing opportunities for freshwater fishers.
Agriculture and Food Security Minister Peter Walsh said 2011 was a big year for trout production at the Department of Primary Industries (DPI) Snobs Creek fish hatchery, as many lakes had filled following drought-breaking rains and were in terrific condition to be stocked.
“Several of our newly filled lakes produced outstanding fishing last year so it made sense to stock them again with help from revenue obtained through the sale of recreational fishing licences,” Mr Walsh said.
The stand-out performer in 2011 was Lake Bolac, which produced large numbers of rainbow trout between 2kg and 3kg.
Other standout performers last year were Lake Tooliorook, Hepburn Lagoon and Lake Elingamite which provided exceptional trout fishing for fly, bait and lure anglers.
Further afield, several waters received trout for the first time in years including Lake Toolondo in the Wimmera, which was once one of Victoria’s most productive and popular trout fisheries. It was stocked with 40,000 brown trout and 5,000 rainbow trout.
“Before the drought, Lake Toolondo was known to produce brown trout over 4kg so there are many people hoping our stocking pays dividends in years to come,” Mr Walsh said.
Lake Marma, near Murtoa, and Pykes Creek Reservoir, near Ballan, were also additions to the stocking list in 2011, receiving 1,000 and 5,000 trout respectively.
All trout stocked this year were produced at the Snobs Creek hatchery which has greatly benefited from recent upgrades.

AGS is Daiwa’s revolutionary new guide system. The endless pursuit of lightweight guides has encouraged the development of our new Air Guide System. AGS allows lures to cast greater distance and accuracy due to its ability for faster rod speed combined with a rapid decrease in rod vibration. The toughness and rigidity of the carbon frame allows for a much higher sensitivity.

Daiwa Japans Number one premium boat fishing squid jig range is now available in Australia. The new Emeraldas Boat model is truly unique and feature many design innovations that makes it the most effective boat jig available on the market today.
The Emeraldas Boat is all about fishing deep, its unique weight and tow point design allows it to swim deep down without rising up through the water column out of the strike zone. Its central tow point and the slim nose design act like a bib on the lure and actually pulls the lure down deep. The nose is also metal so if it does strike rocks, structure etc it will transmit this directly to the rod.

A total of 47,000 Australian bass fingerlings were released by Fisheries Victoria into seven
Gippsland waterways this week. This is the second year of a five-year program.
Broodstock used to supply the fingerlings were sourced from Gippsland rivers. Bass are an
important species to anglers and are regarded as an excellent sport fish.
This year’s stocking is the ongoing rate for the next four years. It is set to provide a depth of
age classes for the fishery into the future.
Fisheries Victoria Executive Director Anthony Hurst said the growth rates for bass in this part
of Victoria would likely see these fish reach the minimum legal size in about four years.
“These stockings will provide an ongoing fishing opportunity over many years. Bass are a
long-living species and many of these fish will be around for over 15 years,” Mr Hurst said.
The minimum legal size for Australian bass is 27cm and the bag limit in Gippsland is two bass
per person, per day.
The areas and number of fingerlings stocked for this year are: Mitchell River 5,000; Avon
River 3,000; Macalister River (downstream of wall) 2,000; Lake Glenmaggie 10,000; Cowwarr
Weir 2,000; Lake Narracan 10,000 and Blue Rock Lake 15,000.
