Luvias has always been one of Daiwa’s most popular high performance spinning reels. Over the years it has had several reincarnations and in 2012 the Japanese have updated Luvias with new features: Magseal, Zaion and Air Rotor.
The new Luvias reels will be with us in December until then you can read about them here.
Daiwa has always had a long history of innovation, in 2010, Daiwa pioneered the ground breaking technology- Magseal, Zaion and Air Rotor, a combination that is the future for all Daiwa spinning reels. Originally introduced in our flagship reels like Saltiga, Certate and Exist, it was only a matter of time before we introduced it into Australia’s most popular spinning reel ever the TD Sol. Developed over the past two years, TD Sol II shows Daiwa’s commitment to introduce its best design innovations into mid-price reels.
The new TD Soll II will arrive in December 2012, until then read all about it here.
In 2010 the new Saltiga introduced unrivalled ground breaking technology…. Magseal and Zaion Air Rotor. This year we are proud to introduce the new Saltiga 7000H Dogfight to the range.
Saltiga heralds a giant leap forward in design, revolving around magnetic fluid. Developed by NASA to magnetically deliver fuel to space ships, this revolutionary innovation is now used in may of our reels.
But mixing a liquid with iron isn’t easy, Daiwa has mastered it. When dispersed evenly through liquid, the iron oxide (magnetite) has a diameter of 1/100,000mm, so small that the surface area of the ferromagnetic particle is around 1/10th of a single influenza virus.
This new metallic grease/oil takes on a new effect, placed by itself it forms a typical liquid helical shape with the introduction of a magnetic force it changes shape similar to the android in Terminator II, attaching itself to any other metal to form a seal. So strong is this magnetic liquid that if placed in a container with a magnetic surface it would retain its shape even if the bottom was removed. Being magnetized this lubrication system avoids any friction and prevents dust intrusion, eliminating oil spray and significantly improving reel life expectancy. The challenge for Daiwa was to utilise the inherent benefits of magnetic liquid in reel design. Instead of it being used to dustproof, we needed something that was waterproof. Innovative design combined new CRBB bearings with a magnetic oil membrane and making it possible. Water intrusion is now a thing of the past.
Not content just with Magseal, Saltiga also introduced Zaion Air Rotor. Zaion material was first seen in the Luvias series, this super strong light material is like no other – a new revolution in strength and sensitivity. This design disperses pressure to the entire lower section of the rotor, dramatically decreasing stress and flexing. Working in conjunction with the Mag Seal the Air Rotor has been hollowed out to create airflow through the whole rotor system. This prevents foreign material such as water, salt, sand and dust collecting inside the reel, the added air flow eliminates moist build up in the reel preventing corrosion issues.
With other designs innovations like Real Four, Hyper Digigear, UTD, Airbail etc as standard the Saltiga sets the standard as the best heavy duty reel available.

The new Sacrifice II Stick re-defines the design of the high speed jig. Tested extensively through Japan, Korea, Australia and New Zealand, it has proved tremendous as an excellent high speed jig for Kingfish, Samson fish, Tuna etc
Daiwa has redeveloped the revolutionary Resist Wing edge previously only ever seen in the original Sacrifice Stick from many years ago, to produce a new design that resists water drag more efficiently than any other jig yet still retain an action. The new centre balanced Resist Wing edge is sharper, forcing water pressure away from the jig thus allowing for smoother less drag but also causing the jig to slide left to right.
Using only the finest materials Sacrifice II has an extreme fish attracting finish called “Magma”, looking like lava this surface is highly reflective and will reflect light even in the deepest waters. Coated with a high impact epoxy finish to resist damage, the jig also uses a super strong one piece stainless steel internal wire and a highly compressed lead main body that both help to minimize any jig from bending

The new Sacrifice II Stick SL is the new cross over jig from Daiwa, half way between the legendary sacrifice Stick and the Sacrifice Leaf, it’s both a high or low speed jig all wrapped up in one . Tested extensively through Japan, Korea, Australia and New Zealand, it has proved tremendous as an excellent for Kingfish, Samson fish, Tuna and numerous bottom dwellers.
Using the best from both jigs Daiwa has redeveloped the revolutionary Resist Wing edge previously only ever seen in the original Sacrifice Stick from many years ago, to produce a new design that resists water drag more efficiently than any other fat wide jig. The original Leaf design has allowed for lower balance to be super fast sinking and the Resist Wing edge is sharper, forcing water pressure away from the jig thus allowing for smoother less drag but also causing the jig to flutter and slide left to right at any speed.
Using only the finest materials Sacrifice SL has an extreme fish attracting 3-Dimensional finish (3D), making the lure look larger underwater and the 3d finish reflects light even in the deepest waters. Coated with a high impact epoxy finish to resist damage, the jig also uses a super strong one piece stainless steel internal wire and a highly compressed lead main body that both help to minimize any jig from bending.

Trout produced from the Department of Primary Industries’ freshwater hatchery at Snobs
Creek are the equal of their Tasmanian cousins.
Some anglers have historically questioned the genetic integrity of Victorian rainbow trout
compared to their interstate counterparts, however new findings dispel that myth once and for
all.
Acting Fisheries Victoria Executive Director Jon Presser said new research funded by
recreational fishing licence fees showed Victorian trout grew and thrived just as well as trout
in Tasmania. “The research demonstrates the quality of the fish being bred by Fisheries Victoria is equal to
any in Australia, with nearly 460,000 rainbow trout stocked last year,” Mr Presser said.
The three year scientific trial compared the performance of Victorian strain rainbow trout
produced at Snobs Creek with Tasmanian strain fish sourced from the Great Lake population
at Liawenee. The rainbow trout were fin clipped by Fisheries Victoria staff to distinguish them and released
into privately owned catch and release lakes outside Ballarat.
Expert anglers who fish these lakes regularly monitored the performance of the rainbow trout
and kept detailed records of their catches. To ensure the trial was not biased, even the owners of the lakes did not know the origin of the
trout stocked in their waters. The results showed the Snobs Creek trout performed almost identically to the Tasmanian fish
with similar longevity, growth rates and catchability. Both strains survived until they were three to four years old when the trial ended.
Mr Presser said the results were good news for thousands of Victorian anglers who had been
enjoying bumper trout fishing in many lakes that were stocked with rainbow trout from Snobs
Creek following the drought breaking rains of this year and last.
“Many of these rainbow trout are growing exceptionally well in these lakes with many fish now
weighing over 1.2kg,” Mr Presser said.
Anglers can look forward to another exceptional snapper catch in Port Phillip Bay this spring.
Scientists from Fisheries Victoria are predicting the 2011-12 season will be a repeat of recent years, although catches will be moderate over the next three years. Researcher Paul Hamer said scientists were able to forecast the likely performance of the fishery based on the number of baby snapper that settled in Port Phillip Bay each year. “Baby snapper settle in the Bay during the late summer and early autumn following the
summer spawning season and this settlement determines the size of the catch in years to come,” Mr Hamer said. “Snapper spawned in Port Phillip Bay are the mainstay of Victoria’s ‘western snapper stock’ extending from Wilsons Promontory to the mouth of the Murray River.” Snapper is one of the most highly prized fish caught in Victoria by recreational and commercial fishers. Every year from late spring to early summer anglers launch boats all around Port Phillip Bay to catch snapper as they migrate into the bay for their annual spawning season. “The successful spawning and survival of young snapper in the bay varies greatly from year
to year,” Mr Hamer said. “Ten to twenty fold variations are common and this variation influences future catches. “We know these variations are related to factors influencing the snapper during their first few
weeks of life.”
Ongoing research is determining how water temperature, nutrient supply, river flows and currents influence the food supply, growth and survival of baby snapper in the Bay. Interviews with anglers revealed last year more than 80 percent of snapper caught were above 1kg and were at least 40cm long. One in four were big reds that weighed more than 3kg and were at least 60cm.

SJ is the ultimate power casting series now available from Daiwa’s extensive range of shore based lure fishing rods.
Designed for rocky shore and beach based lure fishing for large fish like kingfish, tuna, mackerel etc, its ultra light design delivers incredible stopping power to even the toughest fish.
The secret to SJ’s power revolves around the blank. By using a 97% carbon blank with a soft tip and ultra power butt section, these rods are designed to load from the tip to the butt so to provide maximum power to a hooked fish while they are also able to cast heavier metals, sliders, poppers etc with ease.
To deliver the incredible power to the blank, SJ uses Fuji’s epoch making guide system, SIC “K” guides, these guides dramatically reduce line wrap, dissipate line heat and improve line speed for faster more accurate casting. Added to this these rods feature Fuji graphite reel seats, locking rings, custom alloy componentry and ultra tough EVA grips with a grooved fore grip for added grip.

The 2001 Saltiga introduced unrivalled ground breaking technology…. until now with the introduction of the new Saltiga.
The Saltiga heralds a giant leap forward in design, revolving around magnetic fluid. Developed by NASA to magnetically deliver fuel to space ships, this revolutionary innovation has now been developed for Saltiga.
Mixing a liquid with iron isn’t easy, but Daiwa has mastered it in the Saltiga range.
Not content just with Magseal, Saltiga also introduces Zaion Air Rotor.

Ultimate casting innovation…..the easiest way to describe Daiwa’s latest shore lure casting rods, Lateo Pirates. Designed for rocky shore and beach based lure fishing, Lateo’s unique design provides unparalleled casting performance.
Lateo employs Daiwa’s unique Japanese designed HVF (high volume fibre) carbon blank, these rods are designed to load from the tip to the butt for maximum power and fast casting acceleration. A minimalist approach in design was used deliberately to eliminate any extra weight, grips and blank cosmetics are almost nonexistent.
But the blank isn’t everything that improves casting performance. Lateo uses Fuji’s epoch making guide system, alconite “K” guides, these guides dramatically reduce line wrap and improve line speed for faster more accurate casting. Added to this these rods feature customized Fuji graphite reel seats, custom alloy componentry and minimalist ultra tough EVA grips to reduce weight for high speed casting acceleration.
For ultimate casting performance and innovation look no further than Lateo Pirates.

For the past ten years the original Saltiga rods set a new industry standard as the strongest and lightest offshore rods available. After a decade these rods are envied by other manufacturers and are a true testament of how advanced the rod’s technology was, they remain unchanged, and technology hungry anglers still regard these as the best available that were until now with the introduction of the Saltiga Dorado rod series.
Designed to match the awesome power of the new Saltiga reels the new rod series heralds a new design concept – 3D carbon design. Combining Daiwa’s famous Bias Wrap Construction for ultimate strength, power, light weightiness and ultra slim blank diameter with the X-Torque design, a design that resists blanks twisting and massively increasing torque, Daiwa has created their greatest ever casting rod design.
Having used all of these rods extensively from the very first development of the first prototypes, I thought I would give anglers a rundown of what each different model is suited for, so check it out by clicking here.

The new Freams heralds a giant leap forward in reel innovation. In 2010 Daiwa introduced Magseal in its flagship spinning reels – Saltiga and Certate, this incredible innovation introduced the most technically advanced spinning reel design ever. Though this system is superb it is not that economical to introduce into lower price spinning reels. Daiwa recognized this and developed another system that would suit these reels and called it ‘Oil Seal”.

The Gekkabijin Vib 3S is an all new “vibe”. Imitating the small shrimps that are so prevalent throughout estuaries, bays, rivers and streams, the Gekkabijin Vib 3S will definitely be one of the lures to watch on the ABT Tournament trail in 2011. Guaranteed to be a live well filler for bream, it will be equally effective on bass, trout, estuary perch or just about anything that eats small shrimp!
Unlike any other available it features a hollow plastic body, giving it a full body profile and the internal weight system causes the lure to sink nose forward to avoid snagging. On a slow crank it produces a wide wobble but speed it up and the tight high pitched wiggle attracts any predatory fish.
Handmade to the highest standards, these lures feature 3D realistic eyes, ultra sharp HD chemically sharpened treble with lifelike skirt and are painted internally with chip proof paint for an incredible lifelike finish.
