DAIWA PRODUCT FOCUS: SILVER CREEK BY MATT CALDWELL

With most of the rivers and streams across Australia closed to trout fishing at this time of year, the only way to catch a trout  will be to visit one of the many freshwater lakes throughout NSW, VIC and Tassie. Also with the cold weather, yet clear water conditions recently I have been enjoying some quality trout fishing. Lake Jindabyne is fishing really well with good results coming from most parts of the lake, this is the time to start walking and looking for the big browns as most of them have finished spawning. My Rod of choice without questions would have to be the Daiwa Silver Creek AGS 710 paired with the Daiwa Silver Creek 2004 spooled with the New 4 PLY J-Braid. This is a very good looking combo; however, its work ethic supersedes its chiselled good looks. The Silver Creek AGS is the passionate and specialized trout anglers dream rod series.
This rod is rated from Daiwa as a Medium Light and comes with a recommended lure range of 3-18 gm. The Length of this rod gives you much greater distance to be able to cover more water and also has more than enough power to punch a lure into the wind, also handles casting into structure with precision and ease.

Reel/Lures: There are two reels that are worthy of this stick. First, I paired it with my Daiwa Presso 1025 spooled with 6lb J-Braid (8 PLY), Then turned to the Daiwa Silver Creek 2004 spooled with new Daiwa J-Braid (4 PLY) both matched perfectly and when teamed up with the rod it is still ultra-light in the hands and perfectly balanced. Lures that match this rod perfectly are the Daiwa’s Wise Minnow 50sp and 75mm Double clutch and Gekkabijin Yogiri are all great representations of baitfish and with a good range of sizes and colours available you are able to always match the bait as best as possible.
