Favourite Products of 2024
A few of the members of our Sponsored Angler Team share with us their favourite products of 2024. From lures, to line and everything in between our anglers have varied tastes and products that stood out to them them this year.
Mitch Taylor
This has been such a gun lure and has become an absolute go to lure for big bream and other estuary species.
Dale Baxter
Dale couldn’t pick just one product, he had to pick three for his fav product of 2024.
A super versatile light estuary plastic that I love fishing on ultra-light jigheads for bream, perch and flathead. With the 295 Flick you can impart a lot or a little action to suit the situation.
The best all-round rod in the Infeet range. I use this rod for everything from throwing sinking baits on 3 lb straight through fluorocarbon to small hardbodies and plastics this rod does it all.
The smoothest light weight reel in the range but with plenty of guts to wind hard when required.
Sam Gilchrist
I feel in loved with this rod when it came out in 2019, and it’s still my favourite. My go-to topwater rod for kings, yellowtail tuna and Spanish mackerel. An absolute weapon of a rod.
Darren Weda
Everything eats prawns and fish just love the 2.35” Prawn. It’s the perfect size prawn for Victorian estuary species. It’s super subtle and realistic has been awesome this year.
Josh Cheong
My go to rod for everything from mangrove jack to longtail tuna, this rod finds its way onto my boat on nearly every outing regardless of target species. At 7’4 in length it’s the perfect size for long effortless casts at schooled pelagics while still being able to hop a plastic off the bottom or a jerk bait around the snag. Matched with a Certate LT 5000 and a quality PE 2.5 line this combo is really a jack of all trades when it comes to our fishing options up north. With a rating of 10-15kg, a powerful butt section makes muscling fish possible when needed while the lighter tip section is sharp and responsive imparting great action to a variety of plastics and hard bodied lures.
Quickly becoming the jighead by which all other jigheads are measured against. The uniquely designed bait keeper holds onto baits like no other, giving you complete confidence that your lure will still be working correctly after short strikes. It also provides great holding power for aggressive techniques like high-speed spinning or aggressive jerking, allowing your plastic to sit perfectly on the jighead for those casts that matter. The hooks are ultra-strong and penetrate with ease thanks to the Teflon like coating. With a size range of #4 through to 8/0 there is a jighead to suit every situation I come across up here from shallow mangrove lined creeks to deep offshore reefs and everything in between.
Joshua Davey
They are the perfect jig for kingfish in my opinion as they are easy to work, look great and have an amazing flutter on the drop. Kingfish cannot resist them, and they suit my style of fishing perfectly. They’re like the old sacrifice sticks, just better!
Jack Gillespie
This range of rods has a variety of lengths and weights ranging from ultra-light bream rod all the way to a large Murray cod swimbaiting rod. TD Black are light weight, well balanced and designed for Australian fishing conditions. Third is the third generation of the TD Black range so all models have been redefined for purpose-built fishing.
Joey Urquhart
This plastic is so versatile being able to work with short sharp jabs or work it very slow allowing the big curly tail to naturally swing around in the current. Whether you’re chasing snapper, kingfish or mulloway the 5.5” Wave Minnow is an awesome plastic to tie on.

The Free Swimmer BR was released in 2022, but recently two smaller sizes including the 3000 have become available. This style of reel over the years has mainly been marketed by most brands at the larger end of the scale. However, I was always on the lookout for smaller models that suited lighter line species and techniques.
These reels were often very hard to find or not as mechanically proficient as the larger models. Therefore, I was very excited to see the smaller 3000 size Daiwa Free Swimmer BR come out and so far, have been super impressed in the short time I have been using it. If you're doing any sort of fishing where your rod is set in a holder and not in your hand, for species that can run a decent amount line like a mulloway, yellowbelly, silver trevally or big trout, a Free Swimmer BR is imperative in keeping your rod from going for a swim. Bank fishing lends itself to using a reel of this style as the strength of a fighting drag would be enough to see a rod pulled out of the holder.
Alex Bellismo
Like Dale, Alex couldn’t choose just one, but instead picked his favourite outfit for 2024.
Rod: Dragger X 100M 305cm PE-1.5/2.5, Reel: Saltist MQ 5000D-H, Braid: J-Braid Expedition 20-25lb, Leader: Saltiga Nylon 20-25lb, Lure: Saltiga Over There 110S 30gm, OT Jig 20-30gms
The new Dragger X is a powerhouse rod. Highly responsive so you can feel the strikes from kings, salmon, tailor and bonito it also has plenty of lifting power which is perfect for lifting fish up onto the ledges. I’ll often have to lift fish up to 5 metres onto a ledge and the Dragger handles that job. A 5000 Saltist MQ spooled with 20 or 25lb J-Braid Expedition is my go-to reel and is topped with 20-25lb Saltiga Nylon leader. When it comes to lures the Saltiga Over There 110S and OT Jig are the go-to’s. The Over There is highly aerodynamic and casts a mile, while the OT Jig is loved by pelagics.
