How to Catch Mulloway on Daiwa Bait Junkies
By Nabeel Issa
Well its only been a short time since the release but the new Bait Junkies have been kicking some goals for me! This time of year (Spring to Summer) is perfect for targeting Jewfish/Mulloway in South East Queensland. Water temps are slowly increasing and whilst the fishing hasn’t been red hot, it certainly has been getting better and better.
Typically, the Jewfish in these parts are school sized and are usually in the 80-90cm range. I have caught plenty over the years and it can be quite hard to crack those larger fish. This season however, since using the Bait Junkies I have not landed a fish under the meter mark. This included a new PB at 122cm, caught on the 5inch Jerk Shad in Baby Bass.
The technique so far has been working the Bait Junkies in 10m of water through schools of fish. I have been using a ½ oz Jighead to get these down and working the lure back to the boat with a double hop. Pretty simple stuff, but its proven highly effective!
Baby Bass has been my standout colour to date, in the 5inch Jerk Shads and 3.2inch Minnows. I will be giving a few other colours a run over the coming months and will keep you all updated with another write up as I get a more time on the water with these new plastics.
I’m really excited of what is to come, they are a great lure and there is just something about them that is getting the bite, whilst others are stuck on donuts!
As they say, watch this space!
