Swallowtail dart are a small member of the carangidae family, but unlike many member of ths family they lack scutes or raised scales that other trevallies usually have. They have a diamond-shaped body, with long, skinny and slightly curved rear dorsal and anal fins, with a large forked tail for their size. They are usually white or grey in colour, with several dark spots along the lateral line.
Swallowtail dart are endemic to the east coast inshore areas of Australia, and can be found from north Queensland to southern NSW. Dart are a regular capture along the beach for bait anglers using light rigs and baits of pipi, beach worm and saltwater yabby.
