Fusilier are part of the family caesionidae, which includes about 23 species. They are usually small, oval-shaped fish with forked tails, and bright, vibrant colours. Most fusiliers grow to about 40m and under 1kg, and are commonly encountered at about 15-20cm.
Fusiler are native to the Indian and west Pacific oceans, and are usually found on shallow, tropical reefs. Fusiler are often sought as a bait species for offshore predators. They can be easily attracted to an area with a burley trail of soggy bream and tuna oil, and lightly-weighted or unweighted hooks baited with bread or tiny bits of fish flesh. Alternatively, bait jigs will also take fusiler. Here are some tackle recommendations for fusiler.
