Pearl Perch Tackle

Pearl perch are a member of the family glaucosomatidae, which includes only three other species. As they name implies, pearlies have a pearl like sheen to their bright silvery bodies, which often has a purple/pink tinge toward the head, particularly in larger specimens. They have an exceptionally large mouth and eyes. Pearlies can reach about 70cm and 7kg, but are more common in the 40-50cm range.

Pearl perch are found from inshore and offshore waters around central Queensland to about central NSW. Pearl perch are targeted primary as a food fish. Their poor fighting abilities leave a lot to be desired as a sportfish. Flesh baits of fish and squid are productive on a paternoster rig, as is a micro or slow pitch jig worked near the school.
