Red throat emperor are a medium-sized emperor that inhabit shallow tropical reefs, occassionally venturing to deeper offshore areas. Red throat can grow to around 90cm and 10kg, and are common around 40-50cm and 2-3kg.
Red throat emperor are found throughout the Great Barrier Reef system in strong numbers, but are also found throughout the top end and in the west down to around Perth, and in the east down to about the central coast of NSW.
