Sand whiting are found along the entire length of the east coast, from Cape York to Gippsland, and on the East Coast of Tasmania.
Sand whiting will readily take lightly-weighted yabby, pipi and worm baits in the estuary and surf. Shallow sand flats with yabby or worm holes are the best places to try. In these same areas, small lures will also work.
Topwater presentations fished on ultra-light spin tackle to imitate fleeing shrimps can be very successful during the summer months. Here are some tackle recommendations when targeting sand whiting.
