Silver Perch Tackle

Selection

Silver perch are members of the terpontidae family, which includes other freshwater perches and grunters. They have a relatively deep body, with a dark silvery colouration, which is sometimes nearly black. They have small mouths and are mostly omnivorous foragers.

Silver perch are capable of growing over 60cm and 6-7kg, however they are common around 30-40cm and 1kg. Silver perch are native only to the Murray-Darling Basin. They have been introduced to other river systems and into various impoundments and ponds throughout Australia.

Small bait presentations are successful on silver perch, with worms, maggots and small shrimp being popular baits. Small trout style soft plastics and bladed spinners can also take silver perch. Here are some tackle recommendations for silver perch.
