King threadfin salmon, often called 'threadies', are a large member of the polynemidae family, and are endemic to many river and estuary systems throughout northern Australia.
They have a streamlined body with a long tail wrist, and have an enormous forked tail. The mouth is relatively large, and they have five pectoral filaments, which can sometimes extend backward to the anal fin. They range in colour from pale yellow to a bright gold.
