Yakka are an abundant inshore species of the family carangidae, which includes many trevallies. They have an oval-shaped body and a forked tail, like many members of carangidae family. They are usually bright olive/green on top, gold/green along the lateral line, and white or silver underneath. Yakka reach about 30cm, and are generally caught at about half this length.Yakka are found across most inshore waters of northern Australia, occassionally turning up in sub-tropical areas.
