Favourite Technique / Species / Fishing Style
Anything Murray cod. I basically only fish for Murray cod for 9 months of the year. Spring is closed season for cod which coincides with prime time for golden perch and bass, which I enjoy targeting until the cod season opens again.
Angling Inspiration
I enjoy seeing anglers go to the next level and make a career out of fishing. Many have done it in business (tackle, media etc) and a few have done it via tournaments, in particular Carl Jocumsen. On the opposite end it’s always good seeing the younger generation taking up fishing and watching them progress along the way.
My Local (Favourite Fishing Spot)
Fish a variety of impoundments across the state but focus most of my time at Wyangala and Windamere.
Why I Fish
The challenge. Big Murray cod are no easy target, you have to fish hard and spend a lot of time on the water to get a result. The feeling when you do catch that fish is great but it’s the thrill of the chase along the way that makes it for me. It’s also a great way to spend time with mates and the camping and road trips that come with it.
Tournaments
Rarely fish tournaments these days, I spend more time organising them. I run the Lake Windamere Golden Classic with a couple of mates and assist in the running of the AYC Fishing Tournaments.
Favourite Fishing Moment
First metre Murray cod. I caught her out of my local river that I grew up fishing religiously. We only ever caught fish that ranged from 50-70cm but this one went 114cm. I’ll never forget it.
