Black Marlin Tackle

Black marlin are one of the largest of the marlins, and are native to the tropical and sub-tropical oceans of the Indian and Pacific Oceans. Black marlin can grow to over 750kg and reach over 4.5m in length. Fish around 50-200kg are a popular game target. Black marlin have a following across much of the world as a premier gamefish.

Smaller fish are regularly targeted by those trolling live and dead baits, as well as various lures. Black marlin, like other billfish, often need to be 'teased' up by purpose-built lures without hooks before being presented a bait or lure with hooks in it.
