Broadbill swordfish are a large, highly-migratory predatory fish found in deep oceanic waters. Broadbills, being a migratory species, can be found anywhere along the east or west coasts, including around Tasmania. Swordfish have been recorded to over 500kg and 4.5m, but are more commonly found at under 100kg.
Fishing for swordfish is a highly-specialised activity. Fishing with dead baits at depths sometimes greater than 500m around the continental shelf areas is the traditional way of connecting with these prizes of the deep. Here are some tackle recommendations for your next estuary angling adventure.
