European carp, or common carp, are native to Europe and Asia, and have been introduced to nearly every part of the world except the poles, and are widespread throughout Australia. They have relatively elongated bodies and range widely in colour, but are usually a beige/brown colour. Their downward-facing mouth are used for foraging along silty bottoms for small invertabrates.
Carp respond to baits fished on light rigs, with dough, worms, corn kernals and maggots being favoured baits. In Europe, coarse fishing techniques are very successful.
Fly fishing with small presentations to imitate the tiny invertabrates they feed on is also a popular technique. Here are some tackle recommendations for European carp.
