Fingermark, also known as golden snapper, are a large member of the lutjanidae family, and are a prized sportfish in the north. They inhabit estuarine, inshore and offshore grounds. They have a red or pale pink colouration on the body, with a distinctive black dot to thirds of the way down their body. Fingermark can reach 90-100cm and about 8-10kg, but are common around the 50cm and 2kg mark.
Offshore reef fishing rigs with squid, strip or live baits will work well for larger models when fishing around reefs and wrecks offshore. In estuaries, a mix of soft plastcs and hardbodies will take smaller models before they migrate offshore. Here are some tackle recommendations for your next fingermark trip.
