Slimies can be found in offshore and inshore waters all around Australia, including Tasmania, but excluding the Gulf of Carpentaria.
Slimy mackerel have been recorded to around 65cm and 1.5kg, but are common around 20-25cm.
Small bait jig rigs fished vertically to shows on the sounder can produce excellent results, and is a technique used by those collecting them for bait. Once a school is found, they can be caught on a variety of lures, including flies.
