Striped marlin are a marlin species of the family istiophoridae endemic to the Indo-Pacific region. They are a classic marlin shape with a particularly high front dorsal fin. They are generally a dark or cobalt blue on top, with a brown/yellow lateral area. Striped marlin can reach 4.2m long and weigh over 200kg, but are more common under 100kg.
Striped marlin can be found in all offshore waters around Australia. Trolling large live or dead baits of bonito, slimy mackerel and yakka is a proven method for this species. If bait schools are located, drifting with live baits can be worth a try. Trolling with skirted lures is also successful. Here are some tackle recommendations for striped marlin.
