Aaron Briggs
Wearing his angling heart on his sleeve Briggsy's love for fishing is infectious to say the least. Captured by the froth of fishing at a young age, Briggsy’s immersion in angling started when he would fish his local waterways chasing whiting, bream, and tailor with a family friend, and today sees him travel far and wide to get his fishing fix.
Fuelled by the thrill of the hunt and discovering new locations and catching new species, Briggsy love for creating video content has made him one of the passioned landbased fishing YouTubers online today.

When did the love of fishing grab you and was there someone that got you into it?
When I was a kid in the 90’s my music teacher and family friend Bob use to take me rock fishing. We’d chase whiting, bream, dart, tailor, and anything else that was out there and willing to grab our bait. While the techniques were simple and the species humble, it wasn’t just about the fishing.
The experiences surrounding hooking that fish was what made me fall in love with landbased angling. Spooling cheap mono onto our ancient reels, making swivel to hook rigs the night before and winding them up in tiny Ziplock bags (ready for our inevitable snags the next day). The dawn wake ups and the long hike into gnarly rock ledges to be met with deep blue water and cold spray from big sets. Rigging up our gear all the while watching whales and dolphins launch out of the water a stone's throw from the rocks and silhouetted by the morning sun.
All of this would happen before you’d even baited up and that was just your average session down the rocks. It was pretty amazing for a young Briggsy and definitely inspired a fascination in nature and the ocean that’s stayed with me my whole life. Cheers Bob!
What was the style of fishing that you did when your first started fishing?
Servo bait or pipies, eggbeater with 12lb mono mainline and a sliding sinker to one of those golden swivels, 50cm of 20lb leader to whatever hook I could dig out of my tackle box at the time. Zero style, just pure froth, and very smelly bait hands!
What (e.g. escapism, competition, connection with people/nature) does angling give you?
I can’t put into words what I get from fishing but I’m very grateful I get to be out there as regularly as I am and especially happy for everyone around me too. I’m an infinitely better person when I’ve been out fishing. Fishing just heals the soul in ways I honestly don’t understand.
Who or what inspires your angling?
The fish themselves! How they behave, how they feed and hit lures, the fights and having to constantly evolve as an angler to go into battle with different species. There are so many techniques and tackle choice nuances that are required to maximise your chances depending on size, species, and location. The art of fishing is un-masterable and in that impossible challenge is where I find myself showing up again and again, carrying with me the knowledge gained from past fishing adventures.
What has been your favourite moment/memory in fishing?
Seeing my son hooked and land his first solid land-based GT. It was a very special moment for me that will probably only be matched when my other kids do the same.
What’s your angling goals for the future?
I really want to get a boat. I’m a land based fisho through and through but a boat gives you freedom to fish many different zones. I’ve got to work out how to reverse down a ramp though, other than that I’m excited for the possibilities a boat will open up for me.
What advice would you give to new anglers entering the sport?
Learn the FG knot, uni knot and loop knot. Spend as much coin as you can on your setup because there’s nothing that will turn you off fishing quicker than constant wind knots and lost fish due to crappy gear. If you really do get the fishing bug it’ll take you to some of the most amazing places on earth. You’ll see things no one else has ever seen and give you memories that will be with you forever.
What can we do as anglers to make our sport and the industry better in the future?
Be more supportive and stoked for one another. Not just on catching an epic fish but the fact that we’re one big global fisho family of brothers and sisters who love to wet a line.
What does the Daiwa brand mean to you?
Loyalty, leap of faith, friendship, and unity. That basically describes my relationship with Daiwa. I’ve always been a loyal Daiwa fanboy. Daiwa took a leap of faith on me during the transition from traditional media to social media, giving me the support and freedom to create content full time. The Daiwa family is one that holds a special place in my heart and as my first sponsor I’m very grateful and proud to be working together after all these years.
