Favourite angling location?

Cocos Keeling Islands

Favourite species to chase?

GTs are always a favourite, however I’m keen to chase most species, which is one of the reasons I call Exmouth home.

Favourite style of angling?

Sight fishing, topwater and jigging

When did the love of fishing grab you and was there someone that got you into it?

Earliest memories were going away fishing with dad and grandad when I was younger, chasing black bream other southern species that called East Gippsland home.

What was the style of fishing that you did when your first started fishing?

Like most anglers I started with bait fishing with a simple running sinker rig. Sandworm was my favourite bait as it always got more bites, but I soon moved to lures, as I enjoyed the more active style of fishing that casting lures entails. Not stinking so much at the end of the day was also a bonus.

What (e.g. escapism, competition, connection with people/nature) does angling give you?

Photography is also a big passion of mine; I enjoy capturing the moment and the small details that are often lost in the occasion. Fishing gives my photography a focus and a purpose.

Who or what inspires your angling?

Other like-minded individuals, guys and girls going out and doing it for the love of it rather than the fame.

What has been your favourite moment/memory in fishing?

Hard to pin it down to just one particular case. I always love seeing people experience something for the first time, whether it’s a new species, or breaking a personal best. It’s hard to beat genuine excitement, and if I can be involved with a capture that brings that it doesn’t get much better.

What’s your angling goals for the future?

Exploring new destinations and targeting new species is always an exciting prospect and something I look to do more of in the future.

What advice would you give to new anglers entering the sport?

Enjoy the learning process. Take the small wins and learn from the losses. Invest in good gear that will last you and take advice from those that have been there before you.

What can we do as anglers to make our sport and the industry better in the future?

Looking after our waterways and watersheds, caring for our catch, and taking what we need, not what we are entitled to. Educate others on best practices and be mindful that sometimes others doing the wrong thing may be doing so from a lack of understanding rather than a blatant disregard for the law.

What does the Daiwa brand mean to you?

Daiwa has long been at the forefront of fishing technology and innovation. Being associated with such a company has not only helped my angling by providing me with the tools required to achieve my goals and aspirations but also be part of a family of other like-minded individuals that helps create them.
