Favourite angling location?

Hill Inlet, North Shore Portland, and Glenelg River.

Favourite species to chase?

Kingfish, trout, estuary perch and mulloway.

Favourite style of angling?

Any form of sight fishing.

When did the love of fishing grab you and was there someone that got you into it?

The love of fishing grabbed me from an early age from a very basic introduction fishing a local lake with my father when I was about six.

What was the style of fishing that you did when you first started fishing?

Basic bait fishing for trout, redfin, and bream.  Lure fishing was something only those in the North of Australia would do.  It would blow my 12-year-old mind the things we catch on lures today and the places we now do it.

What (e.g. escapism, competition, connection with people/nature) does angling give you?

Angling is a wild combination of uncertainty, gambling, competition, nature, boys’ toys, mate ship, beauty, relaxation, exercise and even danger, all mixed together that provides you with an ever-changing experience. Sometimes the anticipation and preparation can be as invigorating as the actual fishing itself.

Who or what inspires your angling?

The variety and the ever-changing landscape of fishing destinations, techniques and new gear and innovations.

What has been your favourite moment/memory in fishing?

Catching special fish with my two sons would be my favorite fishing moments. Hard to pin one down but catching barrel tuna out of our 4.6m tinny with my eldest son would be right up there.

What’s your angling goals for the future?

I'm about to head off on an extended trip north at the end of the year and am super keen to revisit some tropical flats fishing as well as targeting the iconic barra and trying to improve my PB of 120cm.

What advice would you give to new anglers entering the sport?

No matter how young or old, experienced, or inexperienced you are, you can always learn something. Every trip you do is a learning experience, positive or negative. The only real expert is the guy who just came off the water you're about to fish.

What can we do as anglers to make our sport and the industry better in the future?

Promoting the positive aspects of fishing to future generations is what will drive the industry into the future.  I'm fortunate enough to take the students at school fishing each year and it's great to see how many develop a passion for fishing.

What does the Daiwa brand mean to you?

I’ve been associated with the Daiwa brand for almost 20 years now, it's like family.
